Stage Academy

Stage AcademyAbout the Academy

  • Stage Academy is a 12 week communication skills and personal development course presented through theatre techniques.
  • BBC NI’s Daryl Grimason visited as guest tutor on week 3.
  • Students heard first hand about the incredible speed needed to write and deliver an outside broadcast report to a live deadline.
  • Each of the students appeared on camera in studio conditions to experience it for themselves.
  • Stage Academy continues its twice-weekly sessions on communication, dance, voice, and physical theatre with the working scripts: Bugsy Malone, Grease and Joseph.

Skills of the Stage

The Bardic Theatre's Skills of the Stage course runs annually along with our theatre season. A group of 30 young people took this year's ten-week course. It covered basic through to more advanced stage techniques in the context of our featured productions: Grease and Arsenic and Old Lace. Participants attended the shows then studied and perfromed selected scenes on the actual sets.

For the first time this year, the course was broadened to include preparation and delivery of news items to camera.

The highlight of the course was a morning hosted by Dan Gordon, one of Northern Ireland's most accomplished and popular actors.
